Renaissance Technologies LLC significantly increased its stake in Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation (NASDAQ:GLDD) by 47.5% in the first quarter, adding 122,909 shares to reach a total of 381,700 shares valued at $6.489 million. Other institutional investors like Vanguard Group Inc., Gabelli Funds LLC, and Sanctuary Advisors LLC also either increased or initiated positions in GLDD. Institutional investors collectively own 89.11% of the company, which recently opened at $17.00, close to its 52-week high, and has a market capitalization of $1.14 billion.

Dare County Board of Commissioners Chairman Bob Woodard provided an update on the Buxton beach nourishment project, announcing that the dredge Liberty Island began pumping sand on July 31, 2026. The project, involving Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company, aims to place 2 million cubic yards of sand along 2.9 miles of shoreline and is anticipated to be completed by September 30, 2026. Woodard also recognized Matt Kellam for his heroic actions in rescuing three children from a rip current.

The newly built 346-foot dredge "Amelia Island," constructed by Conrad for Great Lakes Dredge & Dock, has begun operations along America's coast. This vessel, delivered in August 2025, is a trailing suction hopper dredge designed to replenish sand on Florida's beaches. Its work is crucial for rebuilding coastal areas, particularly those essential for sea turtle nesting, as natural sand movement is often disrupted by human development and climate change.

Nine companies, including Callan Marine Ltd., Crosby Dredging LLC, and Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Co. LLC, will compete for a firm-fixed-price contract worth $95 million for pipeline dredging projects within the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District. The contract was solicited via the internet with nine bids received, and work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of August 3, 2031.
